Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Enhanced security and travel restrictions will be implemented across the greater Chicago region during the upcoming NATO Summit May 19th through May 21st.  Residents and visitors to the city should expect intermittent road closures, disruptions to public transportation, and restricted access to other public facilities including parks and museums.  In addition, thousands of protesters are expected to march in the city's center during the Summit.

Important United/Continental Airlines Merger Information
As part of ongoing merger activities, United Airlines and Continental Airlines will transition to a single reservations system on the evening of March 2nd / March 3rd, 2012.  Important details for all travelers are as follows:

  • The transition will begin at 1:00 a.m. ET (10:00 p.m. PT) and is expected to last approximately 4 hours.
  • During this time access to United Airlines schedules, fares, and reservations may be fully or partially restricted through all distribution channels.  These include travel agencies, online booking tools, United reservations, united.com and other booking sources.
  • All Continental Airlines flight names/numbers will convert to United Airlines flight names/numbers.  Note that the airline name will change from Continental to United but flight numbers will not change.  For example, if you are holding an upcoming reservation on Continental #500 your flight will be changed to United #500.  All other flight details remain unchanged.
  • Tickets will not need to be re-issued as a result of the change in flight name/number.
  • Post-transition, United will accept any tickets which indicate a Continental flight name/number as long as no other changes have been made to the ticket.
  • Peak Travel will send updated itineraries to travelers holding Continental flights which will reflect their new United flight name/numbers.
  • Once the transition is complete travelers will be able to use united.com or a United airport kiosk for flight check-in.
  • Since there will be a period of time when United?s online support systems may not available, travelers calling Peak Travel?s after-hours service may experience longer-than-normal hold times.
In addition, numerous changes will occur with the United Airlines MileagePlus frequent flyer program on March 3rd.  Most important, Continental Airlines OnePass frequent travelers will need to merge their account into a United MileagePlus account.  Also, MileagePlus members will need to convert their current 11-digit MileagePlus number to a new 8-digit MileagePlus number.  Visit United's MileagePlus merger website for details and FAQ.

On or after March 3rd, your company?s travelers will need to log-in to your online booking system and update their Peak Travel profile with the new United MileagePlus number.

Please distribute this information within your organization as appropriate and contact your Peak Travel agent with questions or for assistance.
